The 1983 movie Flashdance depicts the story of a beautiful young woman who works a day job in a steel mill and then dances in a bar at night. When Alex discovers that both her handsome bosses are interested in her and supportive of her performing career, she doubles down on her efforts to get accepted into a prestigious dance conservatory. She is cheered on by Nick, as well as by her mentor, former ballet performer Hanna Long. It is such an energetic and charismatic story that even all these decades later there are still people who show up and show out as Alex at costume parties around the world.
